The Wave Glider is a hybrid energy USV engineered to perform long-term, autonomous operations on the ocean’s surface. Its unique two-part design—consisting of a surface float and a submersible glider tethered below—uses wave energy to propel the system forward and solar energy to power sensors and communication equipment. This configuration allows the Wave Glider to operate for months at sea without the need for fuel, making it ideal for persistent oceanography, maritime domain awareness, defense surveillance, environmental monitoring, and commercial data collection. It is frequently deployed in missions for NOAA, navies, and energy companies across the globe.

The Wave Glider operates autonomously with its onboard Regulus™ operating system managing all vehicle and payload functions. The vehicle receives mission plans remotely and can adapt to changing conditions in real time via satellite communication. Operators use the Wave Glider Management System (WGMS) to monitor vehicle health, modify routes, and retrieve sensor data from anywhere in the world. Wave Gliders support collaborative swarming and integration into larger command-and-control systems.
